Utility Assistance in Phoenix Arizona

There are several places to get emergency utility assistance in Phoenix, Arizona and surrounding cities.   I have outlined several below:

* The Salvation Army - Offers APS bill assistance for those demonstrating extenuating circumstances and need.  They have a lifetime assistance help to you of 3 times, so only contact if you really can not pay the bill yourself. (602) 267-4122.

*Phoenix Catholic Charities - Offers utility assistance up to $200 dollars.  This is a loan and it has to be paid back.  You must attend a class first in order to be considered.  (602) 997-6105.  www.catholiccharitiesaz.com.

*DES  (Department of Economic Security) - (LHEAP)  The federal government will pay your utility bill one time if needed.  You must go through DES to apply for this assistance.  www.az.des.gov

*APS - Offers low income family a 40% reduction in cost for those who are eligible and apply.  If you have recently lost your job or your income has decreased significantly over the last year you may want to contact them and apply as it takes 30 to 45 to process the application. www.aps.com

  3. Radiant Church in Surprise also offers food and utility assistance. They have a website that gives the days and more details. Not sure if the assistance is for Surprise residence only, but the food bank is open to anyone

  4. I have a transitional house for recovering people which I own and am one myself with 20 yrs of sobriety. My wife left me and my income has dropped. I underwent major surgery at the same time I had to move back into my recovery home. The summer months hit when I had vacancies. One of my clients didnt pay and she had to leave. My home is due to loss the electricity this friday. I have always helped others, but now I need help. I have an 80 yr old man living in my home preparing for a triple buypass. I don't know what to do, I am on social security disability myself and need help.

  5. Mr. Harris, did you find some help? Did you try going to the CAP (community action program) office in your area? You can contact your city office and ask them for the CAP office near you. Salvation Army will pay your APS bill up to $300 and you have a lifetime limit of 3 times.

Also, if you are on SSDI and you also have an additional person in your home that is benefiting from living with you may qualify for SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-formerly called food stamps) Go to DES and find out if they can supply a food debit card.

    I hope things work out.

  7. Hi, It seems to be alot of AZ. people are hurting these days. Des accidently cancelled my Food stamps for a month. So I had to spend the money I saved for my rent to buy foor for my kids ( I have a 6 year old and a 16yr old). I also was laid off in June and my old employer has been fighting ny unemploynent And he is "Well to do" so now the snow ball effect kicks in my phone is off my Aps will be shutting me off this next Monday, and I havent paid rent either. And the best part of all of this we were foreclosed on a house we were renting in August. If me and my kids loose this place we will have no where to go and they are both bright and wonderful kids. If you have any help or information it would be greatly appreciated. Or if I can assist you in some way please don't hesitate to E-MAIL ME..

  8. My heat went out on my home. I've been out of a job for over 19 months. I don't have any money. If someone could help me out who does heating and cooling systems I was told the heating system needs a "TXV METERING DEVICE". The equipment on the roof is over 18 years old. If someone could please help me it would be a blessing. I've been without heat since Wednesday. I woke this morning with my arms numb and icy cold. please email me if you can fix the problem. God bless you. akiss50@yahoo.com

  12. I am having such a hard time with my electric bill. It was turned off yesterday without warning. We called APS and they said there was nothing they could do about it until the remainder of our deposit was paid and our past due bill. This totals $326. I have been everywhere seeking help. CAP office, salvation army, methodist church, our lady of perpetual help, st. Vincent de paul, and I've called so many more. Everyone is either out of funds or you make to make an appointment for a later date, which is something I don't understand because I don't know anyone who plans to have financial issues. I have 3 small children at home at I don't know what to do. They are 8,6, and 6 months and I feel like I am going to have a nervouse breakdown. I have been and called everywhere. We don't have any power in our house and I don't know what to do. If anyone knows of anywhere or anything that can help me immediately I would love to hear it. I have been and called everywhere and am at a loss.

  14. Aps is cruel, they don't allow any chances to catch up!
There are all kinds of charges on my bill its rediculous, and as for any assistance from the community,. Well there isn't any!!!
Its as if we have to hold three jobs and let our children raise themselves. It doesn't Maurer what type of environment they live in.....

  19. I have spent the day looking for assistance to help me pay the balance on my electric, shut off is friday, and have gotten nowhere. It is hard for me to fathom how regressed Arizona is when it comes to kinship care families. There are virtually no resources out there to help financially. Granted there are plenty of groups for support emotionally and mentally, but there are times that financial help is needed the most and agencies here are so busy with everyone else that kinship families fall short of getting help.
